At the National Press Club Simon Holmes à Court* said “In no way are we a party… we don’t select candidates…we don’t have a policy platform…we have values, and we will only fund those who also have those values, but we don’t specify in any degree of specificity how those are to be achieved.”

His political views are not the point here. The point is his statement:

“We don’t specify in any degree of specificity how those are to be achieved.”

In reality the values of Climate 200 (climate action, gender equity, women’s safety…) are also the outcomes they wish to see. But they recognise that there are many paths to achieving them and that represents the critical shift required for businesses working in complexity.

In our unpredictable business climate, going for goals can quickly leave you wanting. They are often too specific to keep up with change. However, outcomes are broader, enabling many paths towards their achievement, providing the flexibility and creativity that sustains success. The most obvious example being how hybrid working has emerged as a path to maintain business continuity despite business disruption, when we would have thought being in the office was essential to crisis working.
